How to Join First Baptist Church

At the end of each service we extend an invitation to people to make a variety of different decisions based upon the leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives.  Among the decisions that people often make is the decision to join First Baptist.  There are three ways in which you can join our church family:

  1. Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and Baptism.  If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, rose the third day, and is alive today and you want to publicly acknowledge Him as your Lord and Savior by being baptized, this is the most basic way for you to join First Baptist.  While baptism by immersion does not save you, the Bible teaches that it is an act of obedience to Jesus and it represents His death, burial, and resurrection.

  1. Transfer of Letter.  If you have already been baptized into the fellowship of another Southern Baptist church, you may come by transfer.  When we speak of transferring one’s letter we are simply referring to a letter of recommendation.  We will contact your former church and ask for a letter of recommendation telling us that you have been a member in good standing.  Your former church will know to remove you from their roll and we will add you to our roll.

  1. Statement.  If you have been a member of a Southern Baptist church in the past, but then joined a church of another denomination, or you were baptized by immersion in a church that teaches what we understand the Bible teaches about baptism (that it is a symbolic act, representing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus), then you may join by statement.
